How Many Painted Turtles...and the answer is......

7!

One morning, I counted 24 midland painted turtles in the pond at the education area at work.  They are quite successful, to say the least, and to get seven in one shot was not difficult.  To get all 24 in the same frame would been a little more difficult, but now that I think about it, it might have made for a very interesting panoramic photograph. Thanks for playing.

  1. Tom, I have been working in Yellowstone Park and have to leave the end of June because of a dental problem. I want to continue walking and taking pictures. Can I come along sometime even if I have a little digital camera? Would the big guys laugh at me?

  3. Gee, Tom. That outline just above number 7 sure looks like a turtle. Sorry, I never took a test in school that I didn't argue at least one answer. I'm probably not a good judge. Every lump on the road looks like a turtle to me.

  4. It does Steve! I agree. But it isn't. I checked this image at 100% size before I made the final "answer" just to be sure- I specifically checked that spot, because I probably would have guessed that was turtle #8- it has the look of a turtle, but it's just dead cattails.

  5. You should see a lot of wildlife where you are going. It will be great. I've seen black bear several times in that area. You might see moose. People have claimed to see them in that area even though most of them are in the Tetons. They don't have antlers right now. The bears and bison have babies right now which is fun. The bison are everywhere so don't get too excited. Wolves are around as well as coyotes, bald eagles and elks. Have a ball and bring warm clothes!
