Although I typically have showed many more photos of the water and bog at little pond, the piney woods are just as interesting. During our last trip, I noted just how alive the Maine woods really is. It seems as if things grow everywhere, and on top of everything. Here we have two large trees growing on a completely moss covered rock. On top of that, you'll see a baby balsam fir, and then there are the the delicate ferns, which abound in the shady, damp understory.
On a side note- Megan and I are both sick. We seemed to have caught a stomach bug or got food poisoning. It was a rough night tonight. No work today for me, I'm running a fever of 100.7, but at least my stomach has calmed down a little bit.

I'm glad we weren't sick in Maine, although it is no fun to be sick in OH either! It was a wonderful trip- when shall we go back?
ReplyDeleteTom: Those Maine woods are really neat.
ReplyDeleteLove the beautiful rich greens.
ReplyDelete...beautiful photo of the fern growing on the tree. Reminds me of what I'm seeing now in Hocking Hills. I love the little cooler microclimate in the gorges.
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better...
Beautiful sunlit ferns! Sorry you are both sick. Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteMegan- Good question. I'm thinking October?
ReplyDeleteTom- We love the Maine woods, they really are neat.
Faye- Thank you so much.
Kelly- Yes, the entire Maine woods are like our cool hemlock gorges. It is nice to have a little slice of the North Woods here in Ohio, although it isn't quite the same.
Mary- Thank you so much. We're back and healthy.
