High Water

Although here in Columbus, we haven't had any major flooding events like those occurring in Iowa, the recent rains have brought very high water levels to the Olentangy River. I'm surmising that the normal food sources that mallards eat during the summer are submerged. This pair is making up for the lack of food by visiting the seed pile placed in the street by our neighbor. The white bits are blossoms of our neighbor's arching Catalpa tree.

  3. Guy- Yeah, it does look like giant pieces of popcorn. Well, our neighbor does put out popcorn, but the crows and squirrels devour it fairly quickly.

    Chris-

Yeah, they were hungry, has anyone else had wild mallards come to a feeding station in their yard?

  5. Hope you dry out soon! Is that a female cardinal in the background?

  6. Very nice of your neighbor. I hope things remain non-flooded in your neck of the woods, of course!

  7. Tom- No worries. We haven't had floods, but it has been consistently wet.

Adam- you got it. I love them...like we've said before, most people in Ohio take these birds for granted, I love how you appreciate them being in northern cardinal-less California.

    Thanks Lana!
