There were no less than five does looking to eat at the feeder at Blendon Woods. Apparently, they just aren't comfortable coming up to the feeder when there are people in the observation building, because this was as close as any one of them came. We did watch them browse the crusty, dried vegetation for a few minutes before they meandered back into the fields and forests. I'm sure bird seed would have been more to their liking.

ReplyDeleteHmmm, your excellent photo got me to thinking... always a dangerous thing. I wonder what's the evolutionary advantage of the wet nose? Seems like lots of different critters have 'em, so there must be a reason.

ReplyDeleteThe hogs, in Ohio, are apparently making some sort of comeback as the Dayton News had a series on them not that long ago. When I used to roam around Shawnee Forest I don't know what I would have done if I came upon one of them. I could still run in those days but had lots of problems trying to get a deer with bow and arrow. Seems I always hit some small tree or something I had not seen so my aim at a hog would have been a waste of time. LOL
