Today's Flowers- the Lily-Leaved Twayblade

I've had the opportunity to view and photograph this subtly colored, amazingly intricate orchid twice this year. It is native to the eastern deciduous forests. Isn't it quite stunning?

This is my contribution to this week's Today's Flowers meme.

  1. So this beauty is in bloom now? Does it occur in NW Ohio?

  2. Those Lily-leaved Twayblades are devilishly hard to photograph, aren't they? You made a good show of it. Thanks for sharing-

  3. "Stunning" and "amazingly intricate" seem to sum up Lily-leaved Twayblades well. Nice shot.

  4. ...I've always focused on the birds, but have been slowly turning to plants and insects as I learn more about them on everyone's blogs. This flower is so delicate and the petals almost look translucent. It's very interesting.

  7. Nice photo, Tom. I just "discovered" this flower for the first time this year, right on our property. It is very distinct and beautiful - too bad it's so tiny and easy to miss!

  10. Kylee- Unfotunately, not in NW Ohio, but it should be finishing up blooming right now.

Cheryl- Thanks very much. They are tough. I wish I had more time to get a better photo.

Thanks Marvin- Wonder if these occur out your way?

Thanks Kelly. Yes, I sometimes don't like the name "birder" because the label is sometimes too limiting.

    Thanks Arija!

Hah Tom, well, I don't make them up, that's for sure. Someone else did.

Thanks Heather. The southeastern Ohio hills are great places to look for this species.

    Denise- You are most welcome.

    Tulip- Thanks!
