In the Land of Snow

Megan and I safely arrived in Munroe Falls, Ohio last night, driving up from Columbus along interstate 71 in the wind and snow. It was slow going, and our normal 2 hour trip took 3, and we counted no less than four cars that had simply run off the road and spun out in the ditch or were caught in the safety wire in the median that prevents head on collisions. Most still had their lights on- I can't say I didn't feel sorry for the people who had just not been able to stay on the road. Perhaps they were driving too fast, maybe they were cut off, you just never know. It must be a horrible feeling- stuck in the snow in the middle of rural Ohio, waiting for the highway patrol officer and trying to come up with an explanation of just how your car wound up that way. By the time we reached Akron, the snow had subsided, and the roads were wet but mostly free of ice. We hunkered down at my parent's house, where I grew up. We slept well and awoke to snow-lots of snow, something that we are just not simply used to this winter. In Columbus, we've only had about four inches of snow-we seem to have gotten mostly rain recently, and a quick look on Dispatch.com reveals that Columbus isn't getting any snow, just freezing rain and/or rain.

But here in Summit County, it is coming down at about an inch an hour- We've delayed the baby shower until tomorrow, and we'll just enjoy a day in the house with family. Maybe I'll even venture outside to get a few photographs. Let it snow!

  2. I'm glad you made it safely in those conditions. Traveling when pregnant in bad weather always scared me more then usual. Take care!

  3. Glad to hear y'all had a safe, albeit slow, trip. Enjoy the snow. We've enjoyed freezing rain and sleet earlier this winter, but no snow yet.

  4. Our snow here has turned to rain. I like having the snow. The snow just gives so much more light to the short winter days. Have a safe trip.

  5. Gads...that almost sounds like Lake Effect snow. Icky! Have a good time, at any rate. 77F + 74% humidity here today. No snow in the forecast any time soon. Ahhhhhhhh. ;)
(BTW, I like the "baby timer" you've put on the blog. I'll be watching that like a hawk. ;)

  7. Am glad you made it. The weather here was nothing but freezing rain yesterday (Saturday) and most of it is still frozen here.

  8. Even though I don't like winter, Columbus has been so gray that even little bits of snow are welcome lately! When I woke up yesterday, I just sighed and said "More freezing rain?". *sigh* Enjoy the white beauty, but have a safe trip back!

  10. I found your blog a few days ago and I've really enjoyed looking it over. I enjoyed your podcast too. You should do more of those. I started a photo blog myself recently. But I am currently on modified bedrest (for pregnancy) so... mine are not current photos at the moment, they are from my back log. But I'm enjoying looking at yours. :) We are in West Virginia. 14 degrees today and predicted to be -5 tonight. Ugh.

  11. We had my daughter's baby shower the 10th...she is due Feb 26th, but the doctor thinks it could be any time. When is your baby due? ( I hope you don't mind me asking that question--if you do, just ignor it.)

  12. Thanks Everybody- Rose, our date is February 27th. There's a baby countdown widget in the top right of my side bar, so check back to see how far we have until the big day.
