On the Olentangy

Last Sunday, I had a chance to return to Kenney Park along the Olentangy River where it runs through the Beechwold neighborhood of Columbus.  I spent much of my free time here many years ago. It was nice to visit again.

  1. Ahhh...late summer in the humid, verdant East. I especially like the image of the vegetated gravel bars in the river, Tom.

    1. Scott- You summed it up. I was dripping with sweat by the time I made it back to the car. The cool air that has set in over Ohio now, two weeks later, give this place a whole different feel. The plant on the gravel bar is Carex emoryi, which, here in Ohio at least, seems to be an obligate of these types of habitats. It rarely flowers. I've watched this patch expand over the past 8 years. It was one of the old friends along the river that was still thriving.
