Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Sphyrapicus varius

Deer Haven Preserve, Delaware County January 22, 2010

  1. Hi Tom..Now we have them in Maine and they are a funny bird that will take you around a tree as many times as you would like to try and catch up with them..all the while making that funny talk that they do !!
    Great photo!!

  2. Grammie- Fortunately, this female was freezing and wasn't scarred of me at all.

Thanks Marvin- I've been enjoying your blog too!

  3. Man, I wish I had a lens to get that kind of shot. I imagine you use something like a $3,000 job? Lovely pics, been enjoying your site this afternoon. I did my MFA at Ohio State, so some of the places you mention bring back memories. (And nightmares.)

  4. Thanks Benjamin- I'm glad I could bring back some good memories- but hopefully not too many nightmares! I took this photo with the Canon 100-400L.
