Northern Cardinals like Maple Sap Too

From Blendon Woods-  This image wraps up my Blendon Woods series.  If the weather holds, Megan, Weston and I are going to go to Highbanks Metropark to see if we can spot the brand new bald eagle nest, and hopefully bring back a few photos.

And if you haven't been there already, check out my Tom Arbour Photography blog. This is where I post my best images at large sizes.

  3. Hey now, who DOESN'T like maple sap, be it off the tree or in syrup form! ;)

  4. WOW, beautiful image! We had a large limb break off of our maple tree last winter and a slew of birds that lapped at the sap when the weather warmed up. Some of the birds were picking at bugs that were trapped in the sap.

  5. I know the sapsuckers like it and have little wells all around this oak tree. I don't know what that tastes like but I am betting it doesn't taste like Maple syrup/sap.

  6. Roberta- Thank you.

Ruth- Thanks very much. The credit for this photo goes to the cardinal, it was super cooperative.

Lana- Agreed. I just bought some maple syrup today to support a local conservation group.

John- That sounds pretty cool. I'm thinking that your branch may turn into amber, full of bugs, in a few million years.

Yeah, somehow I think we figured out that Oak Sap doesn't taste very good, but hey, I'm willing to try it.
