Off to the Islands

Early tomorrow morning I'm off to Kelleys Island for an overnight botanizing trip. Kelleys is a limestone rock in Lake Erie, about one mile from the mainland, and we'll take a ferry to get there. The trip should be fun, but it will also be plenty of hard work trying to update the rare plant records and map the vegetation on the island. We're expecting plenty of rain over the next two days here in Ohio, so we may get quite drenched. Hopefully I'll have a little spare time in the evening to check out the bird migration activity as well. I'll be back Friday evening.

  1. Thursday morning....

I made it this morning to look at your post and then I am off for a lung test.

I hope to be finished with all tests and back to normal by the 12th or soon thereafter.

Your photograph is really nice, as usual.

  4. I wish the sun was shining for you like the beginning of the week, but the rain hasn't been terrible, at least here, just cooler. Try to have fun and get work done. It's a beautiful , fun place. Where are you staying?

  5. I love KI. I haven't visited since '05 but keep your eyes open for fox snakes. We saw a bunch about this time of the year, although it was a warm sunny day. I would really like to get back there...

  6. Abe-hope everything goes well. I also had a sleep study like you described at your blog. They certainly are no fun at all. Fortunately, I sleep normally.

Guy- Thanks very much, the trip to Kelleys was awesome, but can you believe, I didn't bring a camera? The forecast called for rain both days of our work trip and I just didn't want to take the chance of destroying a good camera.

Mary- Thanks, Yes, Kelleys is such a fantastic place, great to here that you were there as well.

Jason- No snakes this trip, our focus was on botany and vegetation. It was a fairly fruitful trip- we were able to relocate and update several old plant records.
