Eastern Garter Snake on North Bass Island

Here is an Eastern garter snake from my trip to North Bass Island. This particular specimen was not happy that I was around. It really flattened out its body and cocked its head, ready to strike at me if I got too close. Usually, garter snakes "simmer down" after a little bit of handling, but photographing this one today was what I was after, and I didn't even attempt to pick it up. These snakes are completely harmless and are common throughout Ohio.
