He looked just like a cardinal, but with a skinny blue neck and head. Turns out it is one of those rare bald cardinals. It seems well--and happy as it sings all the time. Its mate doesn't seem to mind his appearance as she is always close by. Really fascinating!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21247637.post-57586107722255281882009-08-27T16:22:32.027-04:002009-08-27T16:22:32.027-04:00Here in SE Pa, we had "lizard-head" card...Here in SE Pa, we had "lizard-head" cardinals a couple of years ago, none last year, and now they're back again. Male and female both, and they are more skittish than the normal looking cardinals, who seem more assertive at the feeder. Could they actually be self-aware of their odd appearance?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21247637.post-74925250155425981292009-08-22T11:01:56.105-04:002009-08-22T11:01:56.105-04:00I've got a couple of these bald cardinals. They look so weird, but it doesn't seem to bother them much.Maryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02890796903959709429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21247637.post-24051190252971580452009-08-18T01:41:08.455-04:002009-08-18T01:41:08.455-04:00Yes, from what I understand the baldness is still ...Yes, from what I understand the baldness is still a mystery. We get "baldies" every year around fledgling time. I wonder if/how those 2 things might be connected...Lana Gramlichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06975996208260144558noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21247637.post-76152602864234935912009-08-15T01:04:01.128-04:002009-08-15T01:04:01.128-04:00Oh no! He looks a bit like a turkey-vulture but in miniature. Yuck!Meganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08584558899046916488noreply@blogger.com
